Developed skills and lines of research

Felice Amato graduated in 2003 with a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Palermo and received his Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from the University of Naples Federico II in 2008. He is currently associate professor of Laboratory Medicine Methods at the University of Naples Federico II. Felice Amato’s lines of research involve the study of molecular markers and the use of advanced technologies for the analysis of genomic abnormalities in the diagnosis of human genetic diseases. His research focuses on the study of genetic diseases, including cystic fibrosis. His focus is the study of pre- and post-transcriptional regulation of the CFTR gene, with special attention to the non-coding regions of the gene. Much attention is devoted to the use of Nucleic Acid Peptide (PNA) sequences as possible amplifiers of the CFTR protein, a project he worked on for FFC Ricerca. In addition, he is working on the development of methodologies for the functional evaluation of the CFTR protein, both for research purposes and for drug diagnosis and screening. Finally, he is working on genome editing systems, based on Crispr/Cas9 technology, with a focus on the efficiency and off-target aspects of this powerful technology. He has authored more than 40 publications in international journals, more than 600 citations and Google Scholar H Index 15.
