Developed skills and lines of research
Tiziano Bandiera studied at the University of Pavia where he received his PhD in Chemistry in 1987. He then moved into the pharmaceutical industry and worked at Farmitalia-Carlo Erba, Pharmacia Corp. and Nerviano Medical Sciences. His career in the industry began as a researcher in the central nerve system (CNS) therapeutic area, where his main activity was aimed at discovering potential new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. In 1998, he moved into the field of oncology and worked as project leader of preclinical discovery projects focusing on the search for αvß3 integrin antagonists, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and arginine methyltransferase inhibitors.
In 2008, he joined the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) to establish the Medicinal Chemistry group of the Department of Drug Research and Development (D3). Since 2013, he has headed the PharmaChemistry Facility of the D3 Department. His research activities are focused on identifying potential new drugs for the treatment of cystic fibrosis, pain, and inflammatory diseases.
Dr. Bandiera He has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and he is an inventor on 36 patents and patent applications. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society.
