Developed skills and lines of research

Silvia Buroni graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Pavia in 2003 and earned her PhD in Genetic and Biomolecular Sciences in 2007 from the same institution. After working as a postdoctoral researcher until 2018, she became a Researcher and, as of December 1 2021, an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University of Pavia. Prof. Buroni began her career studying drug resistance and the development of new treatments for mycobacteria. About 15 years ago, she shifted her focus to resistance mechanisms in pathogens associated with cystic fibrosis, starting with Burkholderia cenocepacia and later expanding to Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, while also exploring alternative therapies to existing treatments. She has authored 57 publications in international journals, with over 2,200 citations
