Developed skills and lines of research

Laurent R. Chiarelli graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Pavia, where he received his PhD in Biochemistry in 2004. Since 2019, he has been Associate Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology, University of Pavia. His main lines of research concern the study of enzymatic proteins, mainly bacterial, as potential targets for the development of pharmacological molecules with antimicrobial activity. In the field of cystic fibrosis, he is involved in the development of iron uptake inhibitors as potential anti-virulence drugs for the treatment of resistant infections with Mycobacterum abscessus, a major microorganism causing lung infections in people with cystic fibrosis. He has co-authored more than 80 scientific publications in indexed journals and one patent.
