Developed skills and lines of research

Clementina Elvezia Cocuzza trained at the University of London and then received her PhD in Clinical Microbiology from the University of Milan. She has been an associate professor in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology since 2001. She has been a member of the UNICHIM Working Group (Rapid Methods in Microbiology) and a member of the UNICHIM Commission (Quality System in Microbiological Laboratories). She is the author of more than 50 publications in international journals.

Her research activity focuses on molecular characterization of mechanisms responsible for antibiotic resistance and clonal characterization of bacterial isolates. In the CF field, she is working on the development of new antibiotics active against multiresistant Staphylococcus (MRSA), with new modes of administration at the lung level.

Projects funded by FFC Ricerca as Principal Investigator or as Research Manager

FFC#9/2013
Drug development of new beta-lactam and linezolid-like compounds active against Staphylococcus aureus isolated from cystic fibrosis patientes: in vitro and in vivo biological evaluation

FFC#11/2011
Design, synthesis, in vitro biological evaluation and anti-biofilm activity of new beta-lactam and linezolid-like compounds as potential antibacterial agents against Staphylococcus aureus infections in cystic fibrosis patients
