Developed skills and lines of research
Carlos M. Farinha is currently an Associate Professor with Habilitation[1] at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, and a Principal Investigator at the BioISI research center. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cystic fibrosis (CF), particularly the regulation of CFTR trafficking and how these processes could provide new therapeutic targets for addressing CF. He also works on characterizing the effects of rare CF-causing mutations.
He has successfully supervised eight PhD students and is the author of over 65 peer-reviewed international articles and a book titled CFTR and Cystic Fibrosis. He received the ERS Romain Pauwels Research Award in 2012 from the European Respiratory Society for “research on different aspects of CFTR biology.” Since 2022, he has been an elected member of the ECFS Board.
