Developed skills and lines of research
Michele Genovese earned his Master’s degree in General and Applied Biology from the University of Naples “Federico II” in 2016. In 2017, he began working under a Level II Master’s program in “Management and Promotion of Biological and Genetic Research for Medicine” in the laboratory of Professor Luis J. V. Galietta at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM, Italy). In January 2024, he completed his PhD at OPEN University (UK) and TIGEM, focusing on the pharmacological modulation and characterization of ion transport mechanisms involved in the innate defense of the human airway epithelium.
He has attended numerous conferences in Italy and abroad, has been selected twice for oral presentations and travel grant awards at the ECFS Basic Science Conference in Dubrovnik (Croatia) in 2019 and 2023, and has received the 2019 Early Investigator Prize in the General category from The Journal of Physiology.
Since 2017, he has authored eight articles (three as first author) and a review in peer-reviewed journals. He has also contributed to patents related to the mechanisms of action of three chemical compounds with potential applications in cystic fibrosis, supported by the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation.
