Developed skills and lines of research

Alberto Luini, who graduated in Medicine in 1973, has been a Research Director Institute of Experimental Endocrinology and Oncology “Gaetano Salvatore” of the National Research Council (CNR) in Naples since 2009.
Since 2013, he has also been a member of the steering committee of the Campania Bioscience regional district.
He was Director of the Department of Cellular Biology and Oncology at the Mario Negri Sud Institute (Chieti) and co-founder of the Mario Negri Sud Consortium.
His research activity has focused on:

Signal transduction and hormonal secretion, for which he was a visiting scientist at the Pharmacology Section, Laboratory of Clinical Science, National Institute of Mental Health, in the laboratory of Nobel Laureate Dr. J. Axelrod, Bethesda, Maryland.

Neurochemistry and neurophysiology, for which he was a visiting scientist at the Weizmann Institute of Science, in the laboratory of Prof. V.I. Teichberg, in Rehovot, Israel.

Projects funded by FFC Ricerca as Principal Investigator or as Research Manager

FFC#7/2019
Targeting the signalling network controlling proteostasis and inflammation to rescue F508del-CFTR

FFC#6/2016
Understanding the mode of action of regulatory pathways controlling F508del-CFTR proteostasis and developing drugs that rescue F508del-CFTR by targeting these pathways synergistically

FFC#2/2014
A systems biology approach to the correction of Cystic Fibrosis: from building a network of proteostasis regulatory pathways to combinatorial targeting. (A rational approach to develop novel drugs for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis)

FFC#4/2010
Manipulating the endoplasmic reticulum export machinery allows DF508-CFTR trafficking to the plasma membrane: a new set of potential drug targets for cystic fibrosis

FFC #1/2008
Organisation and regulation of the secretory trafficking of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator CFTR and of its pathogenic mutant DF508-CFTR
