Developed skills and lines of research

Paolo Netti obtained his degree in Chemical Engineering in 1994 from the University of Naples Federico II. During his doctoral studies, he worked at the IRC in Biomedical Materials at the Queen’s Mary University of London and later at Harvard University for over four years as a postdoctoral researcher.

He is coordinator of the Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Health Care at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT-CRIB) and a Full Professor of Materials Science at the University of Naples Federico II. His research primarily focuses on understanding the complex interplay between material properties and biological entities, such as cells and biomolecules. His activities range from fundamental understanding of cellular regulatory events at material interfaces to the technological development of a new class of biomaterials capable of directing specific cellular fates by encoding multiple matrices of active biological parts.

He has been involved in numerous European initiatives, he is a member of the ERC grant evaluation committee, and has served as a scientific advisor for several research platforms of the Italian Ministry of Research and Universities (FIRB Program of MIUR).
