Developed skills and lines of research
Since 1990, Sandro Sonnino has been a Full Professor at the School of Medicine at the University of Milan. He is the director of the PhD School of Biological, Nutritional and Metabolic Sciences at the same university. His research has focused particularly on the study of the relationship between structure and function of lipid components of neuronal cell membranes, as well as the role of plasma membranes in neuronal degeneration and cancer. His scientific activity is documented by more than 250 publications, with an impact index of approximately 915 (2011 data). The project funded by FFC Ricerca, which he coordinates, has led to a better understanding of the role of sphingolipids in pulmonary inflammation in cystic fibrosis and the possibility of delivering anti-inflammatory drugs in the form of nanoparticles.
