The Foundation’s Research Valorization Initiative has been launched with the aim of identifying and assessing FFC Ricerca’s scientific projects in terms of their potential for technology transfer and clinical application.
Over time, the Italian CF Research Foundation has contributed to the creation of a specialized network of laboratories dedicated to cystic fibrosis research. This network has led to significant contributions and discoveries, including promising compounds for treating CF (such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agents, and molecules targeting mutated CFTR). These discoveries merit to be further developed and translated into clinical applications, always striving to find a definitive cure.
Carlo Castellani, Scientific Director of the Foundation, expressed his satisfaction with the new initiative: “Over the years, the Foundation has funded highly valuable CF research projects. This team, conceived and led by Ermanno Rizzi, Head of Research Grants and Project Management, will allow us to support and guide the most promising results towards potential applications for people with CF.”
To achieve this goal, a new team has been formed, comprising Ermanno Rizzi, Marco Prosdocimi (Rare Partners), an expert in translational development and biotech sector partnerships, and Tiziano Bandiera (Italian Institute of Technology), who has extensive experience in research valorization and technology transfer.
“From an initial review of the many projects funded by the Foundation in recent years,” Marco Prosdocimi continues, “it is clear that the scientific level is very high. I believe that many of these projects could be of interest to those involved in drug development.

Our role will be to highlight them and organize them so that they can be properly valued and developed into therapeutic applications for people with cystic fibrosis.”
Finally, Tiziano Bandiera concludes:
“The potential therapeutic application of the results obtained from various projects funded by the Foundation is an important goal, one that should be pursued in the interest of patients. To this end, our team will work alongside researchers to facilitate the translation of these results into intellectual property—an essential prerequisite for future development involving investors and pharmaceutical companies.”
